The Albaycin in Granada, Spain is one of the oldest districts and was declared a World Heritage Site, together with the Alhambra. Also spelled "Albaicin," "Albaicyn" and "Albaizin." The houses are all white-washed. The cobbled streets are narrow and winding, much of the Albaycin still can't be reached by car. It is located on the hill, directly across from the Alhambra.
Although the Arab population was wiped out over 500 years ago, the place still retains a strong Arabic presence.
You will find many small squares and bars here. You can sit outside, have a drink, and eat some tapas or just chill out. The area appears to have been untouched by time. People still live by simple, traditional values that have been carried forward over the centuries.
From the Albaycin, you'll find views to the Alhambra at almost every point. They are truly stunning; the location is paradise for any painter or photographer. |
