In the center of the Province and to the northeast of the capital city of Granada, is the Sierra de Huetor. It is between 1,100 and 1,675 metres in altitude.

Declared a natural park in 1989, it occupies an area of 12,428 hectares. This middle area of the mountain is the fountain to the Darro and Fardes rivers, and has massive native vegetation. Oak trees and maples are common here as well as gall oaks in the higher altitude areas. You can also find repopulated pine growth. Fauna here is typical Mediterranean: mountain goats, wild boar, badger, martens, etc..
